Churches Reopening for Public Mass – Beginning 7th July 2020

Dear sisters and brothers,

It is with great joy that we are able to announce that as a result of the changes in the most recent government guidelines, we are able to begin to return to the public celebration of Mass in the parish.

The Archbishops of England have written a letter helping us to prepare for this important moment as we move out of lockdown. They remind us that we ‘cannot simply return to how things were before lockdown’ and that ‘there will be some differences in how the celebration takes place.’ for example:

  • Masses will need to be shorter with no congregational singing and no children’s liturgy
  • Holy Communion will be distributed under one kind and in the hand only
  • We will need to adhere to all social distancing and hygiene guidelines at all times in the church and car park
  • It will not be possible to gather after Mass

MASSES WILL RECOMMENCE on 7th JULY

We are planning to celebrate Mass at 9.30am on Tuesdays, beginning on 7th July, and 6.30pm on Thursdays

At weekends, beginning on 11th July, the Vigil Mass will be celebrated at 6.30pm on Saturdays and at 11am on Sundays

It is important to be aware that there will be a limit on the number of people who are able to attend each Mass, as social distancing means that we cannot use every pew and every seat. We certainly do not want to ever turn people away so please do remember that the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday is still suspended and it may be that some people may prefer to attend Mass during the week when the church will be less busy, or to enter into spiritual communion with Mass celebrated online at http://northamptoncathedral.org/times/ if you are still shielding.   Please bear with us as we adjust to these requirements over the coming weeks and follow the signage and instructions from our stewards, without whom we would be unable to open at all.

We will continue to open St Martins on Saturdays between 1pm and 4pm, for a time of private Prayer and Eucharistic Adoration. If you are currently not shielding, do please come along at anytime between 1pm and 4pm on Saturdays.

With every blessing.

Fr Simon
